Get Ready to Show off Your Child's Photos
It's clear right out of the packaging that this camera was designed to stand up to tough play and rough handling. Bright orange rubber grips on each side make it easy for children to grasp the camera with both hands, and two-eye viewing make it easy to conceptualize a photo or a cool video. The camera even comes with two interchangeable faceplates, so your child can pick her favorite look.

Before your child starts taking photos, you'll need to use a Phillips screwdriver to insert four "AA" batteries in the grips of the camera. While the first few photos are being taken, you may want to set up the VTech Photo Editor on your computer. An intuitive installation wizard makes this process quick and easy. You'll need Windows 2000 SP3+/XP or newer to use this software. And don't despair if you're a Mac user. As long as you have Mac OS X 10.0 or above, you can still use the camera in mass storage mode.

Inspire Creative Development
Six buttons and a navigational joystick on the back of the camera let your child pick a mode and scroll through old photos. Between taking photos, shooting videos, and playing simple games on the 1.8-inch color screen, there's lots to do.

A built-in flash makes it easier to get well-lit pictures, especially if the subject of the photo is indoors. The flash does, however, often fire if you are trying to take a close-up shot, resulting in very bright, blown-out pictures. Inexperienced photographers may need to be reminded that the camera is not designed to focus on objects that are less than 1.5-feet from the camera. For super-sized fun, you can also link the camera to your television using the included A/V cable and view creative work on the big screen.

With 16MB of internal memory and an SD card slot so that you can add capacity if you need it, this camera lets kids collect lots of images. The included USB cable lets you upload the images to your computer. The VTech photo editor lets you or your child add cool frames to photos, stamp funny hats on people, and distort images. You can even run fun animations that makes the photo look like it is rotating or underwater.

The photo editor interface is easy to use, with big round buttons for kids to click on and drag-and-drop stamps. More advanced artists may be disappointed that there aren't more ways to creatively control output, but files from the Kidizoom can easily be edited in more advanced programs, too.

Camera for Christmas.

After reading many reviews and testing several digital cameras designed for kids, I finally chose the Vtech - Kidizoom Digital Camera. I am extremely pleased with this camera. This camera is very durable and easy to use. My son, who just turned 3, was able to figure out how to use it in about 5 minutes and absolutely loves it. I downloaded about 500 photos the very first day and while he has slowed down a little, I have still downloaded over 2000 and he has nearly a full camera now. The quality is not professional grade, but he has still taken some nice photos. The camera also has Tic-tac-toe, Match, and a puzzle game, which have been very nice on long trips, especially since the camera has volume control. I have also been pleased with the low battery usage. I have only changed the batteries once, which I was pleasantly surprised about given the fact of how much my son uses the camera and the relative clarity of the color LCD screen. The software is easy enough to install and use, but not a big selling point for me. The camera also has the ability to change photos by adding in a Viking's helmet or framing with a winter scene that I have tried just to see how it worked, but my son has shown little interest in this function. My only complaint is that the camera only has a wrist strap and does not have a neck strap for when little hands get tired. Again, overall, I am very pleased with this camera and would recommend to anyone looking for a durable digital camera for a little photographer.
ONE OF THE BEST ITEMS I'VE EVER BOUGHT FOR MY KIDS!

My kids saw this advertised on TV last year (2007) and added it to their Christmas list. I am skeptical about a lot of toys that are advertised on TV and am careful about what I spend my money on. I found this camera on sale and went ahead and bought it - it seemed like a good purchase and my kids love taking pictures with my camera.

This camera is one of the best purchases I have ever made for my kids. They fight over using it - this includes my 10-year-old boy who is mature enough to handle a "real" camera. My two girls (ages 7 & 5) love using it. The rubber grips make it easy for little ones to hold and truly protect it when it drops. They can plug the camera right into the TV and show everyone their creations. And, when we are traveling, the camera has a few video games that keep the kids busy in the car.

WORTH EVERY PENNY! The only problem - they fight over it. So, I'll be buying another one this Christmas so the girls can each have their own.

My children are 7 and 4. My 7 yo wanted the camera and loves it. It has alot of fun features and was very easy for her to learn how to use. This was well worth the money. My kids have had toys that they play with for just a short amount of time and then lose interest. This is not one of those toys. My daughter has been playing with it for almost a year now and my son wants his own as well. It actually takes some nice pictures and is quite durable.
Great camera for a 5 year old

Reviewer: Beach Reader,
My 5 year old boy desperately wanted a camera after his 8 year old sister got one. I was worried he would break an "adult camera" and suggested to his grandmother this would be a good one to buy. We are so impressed! While it does need 4 AA batteries, the rechargeable ones work fine. The camera is very intuitive and easy to use. You can download the photos and the resolution is decent. There are fun games on the camera so it is a great toy to bring in the car and then to some event. He has actually dropped it once and it was fine. I would highly recommend this camera.
Cool camera for little kids

I bought this for my son's 3rd birthday. His dad is a professional photographer and the baby camera we had gotten him 2 years ago no longer held his interest. I liked this because it was not too expensive and it was said to be resistant to easy damage. I like the bright color so it is easy to find. The led screen is large enough to view the pictures. I like that the kids can either use the led screen or look through the double view finder to take a picture. My son is too little to play the games and do all the other fun activities that come with the camera yet, but this way he can grow into it. It does not take the best quality of pictures, but it serves the purpose of letting a kid explore his world through a camera.
Scored a hit with great nephew

Vtech - Kidizoom Digital Camera - Orange

Whenever you pick up your cell phone or camera, there are always pictures on them that you don't recall taking. Turns out that my great-nephew who is not quite 3 yrs. loves to take pictures of everything. Even though he's a little young, I decided to buy it for Christmas and he could grow into it. Christmas morning was too much fun. Normally children his age just rip into their gifts and move on. He opened my gift first and that was it. He had to be 'forced' to open his other gifts, and as each gift was opened, he had to put it on the coffee table to take its picture before moving on to the next gift. He was having so much fun with it, he did not put it down until his family had to leave. He has taken it to daycare and photographed his friends. He loves it, and no more 'mystery' pictures on your cell and camera. It fits perfectly in his little hands and as he matures, I'm certain he will enjoy the other features loaded on the camera. It was quite entertaining to hook up to the TV and be able to see all the pictures he had taken. Made for quite a memorable Christmas!

I bought this for my 3 year old. He really likes it. It is pretty easy to use. He was able to figure out how to add the effects and it was really quite funny. When he is done taking pics and movies, he likes to play the games as well. That is a neat feature.
Fantastic - well worthe the cost

The camera was a great hit as soon as it was opened. My 4 yr old granddaughter just loved it and was soon taking pictures of everyone. She immediately understood how it worked. By the next day she was playing games on it when she wasn't shooting pictures. The camera was a little big for her hands but she will grow into it. The batteries were still going strong after 4 days of almost constant use.
We LOVE it!

My daughter (4yrs) got this camera for Christmas, and she absolutely loves it! Not only does she love it, but my nephews who are at our house everyday love it (ages 3, 5 & 7). The picture quality is not that great, but really, none of them care. This camera is great for hours of enjoyment by all who play with it. My older kids record silly videos, take pictures, and play its matching puzzle game (10, 11, 14 yrs...each with their own higher quality camera). It has really been a hit! If you want great pictures, get a different camera. If you are looking for something highly durable, fun, and attention holding- this is the camera for you!
The hit of Christmas...

Oh my... These were the hit of my daughters' Christmas! They love these cameras (I bought two, one for each daughter) and have played with them non-stop. They have run the batteries down twice each, but this is due to constant use verses the cameras sucking battery power. These cameras have been dropped, taken to sleep-over, and played with outside; to say they are durable is an understatement. My girls like the video feature the best. The photo quality isn't the best, and the videos are choppy, but they don't seen to care. I would highly recommend this camera as first for any budding photographer.

We purchased the Vtech-Kidizoom Digital Camera for our Grandson. I had done a lot of research on children's digital cameras. We were not disappointed with our pick. Our three year old grandson loves his camera. He is learning how to improve his pictures. We especially like the two eye viewing, the location of the button, and the ease of use. The camera's pictures are not perfect, but he is getting a great experience. He loves it!!!

Excellent little camera, better than fisher price

After reading many reviews of both cameras we decided to...get both. We chose the vtech for our 6 year old, and the fisher price for our 3-year old. There are only two benefits of the fp, that it can go in water and that the buttons are simple enough for him to understand. Otherwise, the vtech is the way to go. There are more buttons, but they are intuitive enough to work with. The pictures on the vtech are much better than the fp. You can turn off the flash on the vtech - which is great, because the flash on both cameras just whites out the photo. Our six year old loves the photo editing capability and plays the very simple games. A great kiddo camera!

My 6 year old loves this camera. Now when we go places he "documents" the trip by taking pictures. It was easy for him to learn the features. I would highly recommend this. My only complaint is that I wish it had an automatic cover over the lens like most point and shoot cameras have nowadays.
Super Super Super Toy! One of the best toys they ever had!

Awsome toy. When I got the idea of getting the kids a camera I started doing some research and thought in order to get something worth while I would have to spend a pretty penny and even then it would not be durable enough to last. This product is super. We bought two. One for my 9 year old son and one for my 7 1/2 year old daughter. They have had them for a week now and have used them for several hours and the batteries are still good. Most reviews on kids cameras complained about the very short battery life. The resolution is great and being able to pull thier pictures and video up on the computer and tv and made it even more fun. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. It is something they will use time and time again.
Love this camera!

Reviewer: Dominique W,
I bought the blue camera for my 4-year-old as a Christmas present because he is constantly trying to use the camera feature on my cell phone. I initially looked for the Fisher Price camera that I saw advertised on television but the VTech was more affordable and had better reviews overall. Besides-I don't think my 4-year-old needs a camera that costs $100.

This camera has not disappointed at all. He has played with this every single day since opening it and he takes it everywhere he goes. It is durable and has survived a drop or two. I am also impressed that I haven't had to change the batteries yet.

The camera has many functions. There are games on it as well as a video recorder. Plenty to keep my son busy. The flash was annoying at first but most of the time he doesn't use it. There is also a function for framing and taking pictures with different themes. Just overall fun.

The camera is fairly easy to use. My son was able to pick it up and start shooting without little problems. The pictures automatically save themselves. Every day or so I will go through and take off the photos he doesn't want so that there is room for him to save more.

We haven't used the camera with the computer. We have no need to. All my son likes is taking pictures and looking at them on the camera. It is nice that we do have the option to transfer the photos and may play with that in the future.

Five stars overall. This is the holiday toy that I believe will have the most longevity in my household.
The best toy, other than the ds

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this camera. My son is three years old and has a ball with this. He loves playing the memory game on it, loves decorating pictures and just taking pictures! There are a lot of options on this for the kiddies and my son spends at least 30 minutes on this a day. It builds memory skills, helps with creativity, manual dexterity, etc. This is a great toy. I highly recommend it!

*One reviewer says the buttons can be confusing for smaller kids, yes they could be. However, this is recommended for 3 and up. I don't see why a 3 year old should have a problem. My child can and the 3 year old I babysit.

Best gift ever

I bought this camera for my cousin's 5 years old boy.
He can't get enough of the camera, taking it with him everywhere and loves showing people his work. Very satisfied.

I purchased this for my son only because it was a special low price and had a high rating. It turned out to be his favorite toy he received this year. He is 7 years old. When he opened the gift he comment was, "I'm not a baby!" But then he found that he could take pictures and put pig noses and bunny ears etc.. on the people's pictures. It also has games and you he can video things. It is extremely low resolution but just perfect for a youngster who is interested in taking pictures! It is worth every penny!
I'll have another, please!

My son had remembered that "Santa" had left a Vtech Kidizoom Digital Camera at our house for a friend's niece last Christmas (2007). He had been letting me know since then that he was interested in one and sure enough, come time to write up his list, he included it. No disappointment, although no surprise since my friend kept raving about how much her niece enjoyed and continues to enjoy her camera! The quality of the construction is wonderful, since at 6 years old kids do not necessarily take the best care of their toys. The quality of the images is also great! The only problem: now his twin sister decided she also wants one! Santa had NO clue!
