With two-eye viewing, grips designed to fit in little hands, and a built-in flash, this real digital camera can also shoot video. It also includes simple-to-use photo editing software so kids aged three and up can add creative touches to their images. | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Real digital camera takes photos and videos
The Bad: Lots of navigational buttons may confuse younger photographers
In a Nutshell: This durable camera is a fun way to inspire creativity | At a Glance Ages: 3 and up Requires: 4 AA Batteries; TV or computer with Windows 2000 or newer needed for some effect | | |

Large buttons, navigational joystick and 1.8-inch color screen make camera easy to operate. View larger. | Get Ready to Show off Your Child's Photos It's clear right out of the packaging that this camera was designed to stand up to tough play and rough handling. Bright pink rubber grips on each side make it easy for children to grasp the camera with both hands, and two-eye viewing make it easy to conceptualize a photo or a cool video. The camera even comes with two interchangeable faceplates, so your child can pick her favorite look. Before your child starts taking photos, you'll need to use a Phillips screwdriver to insert four "AA" batteries in the grips of the camera. While the first few photos are being taken, you may want to set up the VTech Photo Editor on your computer. An intuitive installation wizard makes this process quick and easy. You'll need Windows 2000 SP3+/XP or newer to use this software. And don't despair if you're a Mac user. As long as you have Mac OS X 10.0 or above, you can still use the camera in mass storage mode. Inspire Creative Development Six buttons and a navigational joystick on the back of the camera let your child pick a mode and scroll through old photos. Between taking photos, shooting videos, and playing simple games on the 1.8-inch color screen, there's lots to do. A built-in flash makes it easier to get well-lit pictures, especially if the subject of the photo is indoors. The flash does, however, often fire if you are trying to take a close-up shot, resulting in very bright, blown-out pictures. Inexperienced photographers may need to be reminded that the camera is not designed to focus on objects that are less than 1.5-feet from the camera. For super-sized fun, you can also link the camera to your television using the included A/V cable and view creative work on the big screen. With 16MB of internal memory and an SD card slot so that you can add capacity if you need it, this camera lets kids collect lots of images. The included USB cable lets you upload the images to your computer. The VTech photo editor lets you or your child add cool frames to photos, stamp funny hats on people, and distort images. You can even run fun animations that makes the photo look like it is rotating or underwater. The photo editor interface is easy to use, with big round buttons for kids to click on and drag-and-drop stamps. More advanced artists may be disappointed that there aren't more ways to creatively control output, but files from the Kidizoom can easily be edited in more advanced programs, too. What's in the Box Camera with 16MB internal memory, wrist strap, A/V cable, USB cable, two faceplates, and photo editing software on CD-ROM.

The reviews of kiddie cameras are mixed, so I finally bought this for my just turned 4 year old daughter (for her birthday last week) with some trepidation. We've now had it for over 1 week, and its been a huge hit! I've never seen her take a toy with her everywhere and use it so often. So just from that perspective, its been a big success.
It takes small pictures (.3 of a megapixel), and takes a few secs to focus on an image (during which camera needs to be held still, a bit of a challenge for a toddler, but good discipline), but if you keep these 2 things in mind, the pictures aren't bad (certainly not as horrible as some reviewers imply). When I take pictures, and hold the unit still (and let the auto focus focus on the subject, the pictures are decent - albeit not great by any stretch). The flash is useless in almost all conditions (except possibly night), but you can easily turn it off (by pressing the delete picture button). Yes it has no zoom, but my daughter likes to experiment by moving closer and farther away. Yes the eye pieces can lead one to cut off the subjects head, but the LCD display is accurate, and I have taught my daughter to use this to frame pictures. She caught on quickly.
We added a 256 MB SD card, and she's been happily clicking away ever since. She's figured out how to delete and put the various supplied graphics (frames and funny facial features) over her real life subjects. I haven't yet shown her the video or games or other editing features.
One of the best features of this camera is the ability to hook it into the tv - no computer connection needed for her. She quite likes to see her pictures on the big screen. On my 62" tv, the pixelation is pretty awful, but I hope on smaller lcds it would be more acceptable.
In the long run, we will give her a better camera that takes better pictures (likely one of our old ones), but for now this is teaching her about photography, and its tough and kid friendly. Just don't expect amazing photos (she doesn't, so why should we?), and this more than delivers the goods for a 2-5 year old in my view.
While clearly not bullet proof, so far I've been impressed with the build quality and thoughtfulness of teh design - hardly the piece of junk that some others have labeled this toy. Good luck. |
This camera is FANTASTIC!!!

I have to admit that I was not very familiar with the Vtech brand prior to this purchase and was a little skeptical. Everyone I had asked advice from in regards to a digital camera for my 4 year old told us to get the Fisher Price camera. Well...we followed their advice and were VERY disappointed with the Fisher Price camera. For lack of a better word, it was TERRIBLE to say the least. Picture was impossible to make out and it was just boring.I returned it the day after the party and picked up the Vtech version. THIS CAMERA ROCKS!!!! The picture is clear, there's a flash, you use as a video camera, you can even add some stamps to the photos like a pirate hat and eye patch. Our daughter is having a blast with this camera. Oh yeah...there's even 3 games in it!
This was a great purchase!! |
My 5 and 7 year olds love them!

| My kids have had these for about a year and they still love them. The feature they love the most is the ability to record their voices for a picture. For example, they will take a pic of our dog and record themselves barking. They love the video function as well. Great camera and even though the resolution is not perfect, they love everything about them. |

| We purchased this for my daughter's 7th birthday. She has been playing with it nonstop for 4 days now. It has little games on it, you can record video and audio. She doesn't care to develop the pictures, she is just happy with taking pictures of everything(us,the cat,her stuffed animals)very entertaining. Easy for kid's to figure out how to delete pictures, go to video, add hat's and border's to the pictures. She can see the pictures she has taken on the screen on the back and do the add on's if she wants. It's also very cute to look at. Very happy with the purchase. |

| I bought this camera for my 4-year-old and she absolutely loves it! She is not ready for an "adult" camera (and I can't believe any child under the age of 8 would be). It's important not to lose sight of the fact that this is toy camera meant for preschoolers and not an advanced digital camera meant for professionals. It a play camera for little kids. If you can keep that in mind, then I think you and your preschooler would be thilled with this toy. It takes reasonably good pictures and will teach your child to keep a steady hand. The games and editing features are really fun and easy for a preschooler to learn. We also love that we can plug this camera in to our TV and view a slideshow of our daughter's latest shots. She's had a ball with it. It seems to be pretty durable as it's been dropped several time... once halfway down the stairs. Overall, I think it a great product if you are looking for a camera for a preschooler. |

| Grandma bought it for our 5 year old's birthday and she loves it! She figured out all the features quickly and it gives really cute prompt sounds so she knows how to maneuver it. The quality may be a little grainy when you view the pictures, but you can increase the quality of the photo's from .3 to 2 mega pixals after you take the picture to print it. And you can see the pictures just fine. She loves it. The games are great too, they are easy for her to figure out and play. She also loves picking a hat or eyes before she takes the photo, line them up on the person and then she takes the picture! Very fun! |

| We bought this for my daughter's 3rd b-day and she loved it. She kicks it around, drops it, and it withstands the beating. She loves the different hats and backgrounds on the camera that she can use in her photos. It's easy for her to use the larger, softer buttons and the sounds the camera makes in response to a button being pushed are fun. Perfect for a toddler. I would definately recommend. |

Was considering the Fisher Price version but did some comparing...the VTech one has more options. Our daughter got this with her birthday money...great purchase now she can leave Mommy's camera alone! She loves it...can work it better than I can work my own!!!
We didn't pay this price...we got our cheaper!
She is already looking forward to taking it with her when we got on vacation.

| I originally bought the Fisher Price kid tough camera because it was a little cheaper and I was buying it for a 4 year old. Big mistake! She opened it on Christmas day and it broke within 15 minutes. I returned it and then bought the Vtech camera, it works beautifuly and has fun features like funny faces you can put on the photos as well as some simple games she can play. The picture quality is not the greatest but she's 4 and could care less. I am very pleased. Do not buy the fisher price model! |

I think we actually got an older version of this camera, I couldn't find it on the website. It doesn't have quite the amount of editing options as this one, but it's still great, nontheless. I second everything everyone else has said about this camera. It is just fabulous. Impressed with the lengthy battery usage and durability - it's already taken a leap down the basement stairs and survived beautifully! All three of my kids, 15mo, 3, and 4, carry this thing around and use it. The flash isn't that great, it tends to white-out the image, but that's ok, it's their camera, not mine. The eldest has fun with the games, specifically the one where the picture gets cut up into four pieces and she has just so much time to figure out how they go back together again before the timer goes off. When she gets it right she gets a smiley face, which just thrills her to death. Christmas morning, when she got it, she took it to Nanna's house and took a picture of every house on the way - I told my hubby if anyone ever needed to know how to get to my house, all they had to do was look at the pics in her camera! Of course, the memory's been erased twice since then, over eight hundred pics!!!!
This thing has been lots of fun for them. If anything ever happened to it, we'd definately buy another one. It's been worth it! |

so far she has dropped it and it still works, the batteries havent been drained and she plays with it constantly,
* it has an automatic shut off which is GREAT!
so far so good!

Great Kids Camera

I researched several different kids cameras, and came to a stop on the V-Tech KiddiZoom Camera. I was impressed by what I read about it and wanted to give it a try.
This camera is fantastic. I was worried just a little bit if my son would be able to use the camera, since it said for ages 3 and up. However, he uses it like a pro. The picture quality is fantastic and it is very durable. It has had a few drops around the house and still works like a charm.
I would highly recommend this product if you have a little one that loves using your expensive digital camera! They will love this one just as much. |
Just what I was looking for!

| This camera is perfect for my 4 year old who constantly wants to play with my real camera. She loves being able to take pictures, movies and play games. It is also great that when she drops it - which she does - it doesn't break. I would recommend this to anyone who has a child that wants to play with real cameras. |

| We bought this camera for our 2 1/2 year old daughter for a trip to Disneyland. She absolutely loves it. She is easily able to turn the camera on and take the pictures. A nice feature on this camera is there are two eye holes so little ones don't have to figure out how to close one eye. I can't rate the quality of the pictures too much since our daughter just clicks anything she can see, so we don't have any good subject matter yet. Also the quality is amazing. She must have dropped it 20 times and it is perfectly fine. |
5 year olds love it

| After doing some light research and sending my findings to Santa, my daughter got this camera for Christmas and loves it. She is just over 3 years old and this camera is perfect for her age. She quickly figured out the basics of how to use it, and while we have our fair share of pictures of the floor and her finger she's also taken some cute ones of family and pets. It's been dropped on hardwood floors a couple of times and has held up well. She loves all the little picture enhancements. I'm surprised at how long the batteries and internal memory has lasted (haven't had to change the batteries yet and I've only cleared off a few pictures). You're probably not going to win any photo contests with the quality of picture that it takes, but you also have to keep in mind that it's as much a toy as it is an introduction to picture taking. I think it's something that she'll use for years to come. Highly recommended! |

My daughter has had a few digital cameras in the past year. The past couple that shes had are just crap digital camera, supposedly had the viewing screen, but you couldn't make anything out. In my search to find her a good durable "kids" camera I came across the kidizoom. I think its been one of the best purchases of the year!! She absolutley loves it.
The viewing screen, you can actually make out the pictures, and it takes pretty decent pictures. She loves the Video Camera portion as well and the games. All in all we're very happy with the camera and it seems to be very durable. Only downfall that I can see it that there is no way to charge the camera, it eats up batteries rather quickly. But that's a minor thing. |

An Adult Camera Made for A Kid!

| What a great camera/toy/hobby! I was surprised to find that this camera has features found on adult cameras - you can play your pictures back on a tv or computer, the window allows you to view instantly the picture you've taken, there are games to play built in, really just too much to list. It's construction is perfect for my "not so gentle" 8 year old. For an ADHD child it was something that held her interest and that she loved using. Great buy & great price too! |
